West Australian-based Taunton Vale 1st-crop stallion Bearcat (Danehill-Fitting, by Marscay) recorded his 1st winner with his 1st runner when 2YO filly Time To Climb (Bearcat-True Roman, by Is It True) scored on debut over 1000m at Belmont Park in Perth for trainer Trevor Andrews. Time To Climb was a $75,000 yearling at February's Perth Sale. Her sire Bearcat is a full-brother to both ill-fated Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning Yarraman Park sire Catbird & Gr2-winning Eliza Park Stud stallion Danbird.

Taunton Vale Stud's Canadian-bred Gr1-winning freshman sire Numerous Times (Numerous-Dramatical, by Theatrical) recorded his 1st winner when 2YO filly Belle Times (Numerous Times-Tritri, by Tribu) scored over 1300m at Belmont Park in Perth yesterday for trainer Fred Kersley. Belle Times (passed-in after failing to make a $50,000 reserve at the 2007 Perth Sale) took her record to a win & 4 placings from 5 starts.

Tomcito Wins Gr1 Peruvian Derby
In South America, Darley shuttler & former Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry (Machiavellian-Helen Street, by Troy) added a Gr1 triumph when his Kentucky-bred 2YO colt Tomcito (Street Cry-Inside Or Outside, by Eastern Echo) "powered home in the stretch to score his 2nd classic victory" in a month with a 3.5-lengths victory over older rivals in Peru's Gr1 Clasico Derby Nacional (Peruvian Derby & 3rd leg of the Peruvian 3YO Quadruple Crown) over 2400m at Hipodromo de Monterrico in Lima, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Tomcito (ridden by Benjamin Padilla for trainer Juan Suarez) defeated stakes-winner Fortanyo & Gr1-winner Faraqueen. Western Australia's Dardanup-based Taunton Vale stud announced stallion Bearcat (Danehill-Fitting, by Marscay) has attracted a "full book" this season, reported breednet.com.au. Bearcat (a $700,000 yearling at the 2001 Easter Sale in Sydney) is a full-brother to both ill-fated Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning sire Catbird & promising young sire Danbird. He covered 80 mares last season (with 90% fertility) & is standing again this year at $4,400. Bearcat raced exclusively in Hong Kong & notched a 1400m track record at Happy Valley.

Bear Cat To Taunton Vale In WA
Gr1 Golden Slipper winner & Gr1-producer Catbird's full-brother Bear Cat (Danehill-Fitting by Marscay) will stand his debut season at stud this year for $4,400 at Western Australia's Taunton Vale Stud Farm in Dardanup. Bear Cat won over $450,000 in stakes while racing in Hong Kong, before Anton Koolman brokered the deal to stand him at Taunton Vale alongside international Gr1 winner Numerous Times (Numerous-Dramatical by Theatrical). Bear Cat's other full-brother Danbird will stand at Eliza Park Stud in Victoria this season.
