Magic Millions Weanlings Day-3: $310k Oratorio Colt
Melbourne-based agent Damon Gabbedy's Belmont Bloodstock paid top price of $310,000 for a 1st-crop colt by triple Gr1-winning Coolmore shuttler Oratorio (the 2nd foal out of 7YO Filante mare Mistress Lili) during yesterday's 3rd session (& end of the select component) of the 4-day Weanling Section (followed by the 5-day Broodmare Section & 3-day Yearling Section) at the Magic Millions National Sale on the Gold Coast. The colt was consigned by Ilala Stud as agent & his dam Mistress Lili is a half-sister to triple Gr1 & triple Gr2-winning Defier (who was also 7-times Gr1-placed & earned $2,976,450). Gabbedy commented: "Just an outstanding individual! He'd be the nicest weanling I've seen anywhere this year. He's by a very exciting 1st-season sire & I purchased him for a new client." Gabbedy noted his client "would decide later whether the colt would be auctioned again as a yearling or be retained as a racehorse". Breeder George Fraser from Ilala Stud added: "Right from the time he was foaled he's been an absolutely outstanding individual. I thought he could make a good price, but $310,000 is just a brilliant result. Chilean Champion We Can Seek Joins Ilala Roster
Triple Gr1-winning Chilean champion We Can Seek (Seekers Reward-Weekend Leave, by Polish Navy) will commence stud duties in 2008 at Scone-based Ilala Stud in the NSW Hunter Valley for $8,800. Services Worth $218k In CQTBA Tender
Services worth $218,870 from 75 stallions are on offer through the 2005 stallion service tender organised by the Central Queensland Thoroughbred Breeders Association which closes at 5pm on Friday (July 29). Co-ordinator Rick Palmer noted the stallion tender has grown substantially since its inception in 2004: "Last year the tender involved 37 services from 35 sires & this year we're offering 77 services from 75 sires. In our 1st year we restricted ourselves to stallions based in Queensland, but this year we have expanded the choice to include sires based in the 3 mainland eastern states (Queensland, NSW & Victoria)." The stallion in the scheme with the highest service fee is Bite The Bullet, standing the 2005 breeding season at Bengalla Stud at Muswellbrook in NSW for $6,600. Also in the scheme are several sires standing at $5,500: Amalfi (Ilala Stud at Scone); Filante (Ilala Stud at Scone); Moon Rocket (Craiglea Stud at Kenilworth); Stromberg Carlson (Raheen Stud at Warwick); & Yes Boss (Carringbush Stud at Wyreema via Toowoomba).
