The 1st living foal from triple Gr1-winning racemare Shamekha (Secret Savings-Lifetime Story, by Don't Say Halo) notched his 1st win yesterday when just-turned 3YO colt Al Aseel (Forestry-Shamekha) led all-the-way to score by 3.5-lengths over 1300m at Hawkesbury in NSW at his 3rd start for trainer Gai Waterhouse. Al Aseel was conceived in the US to Southern Hemisphere time after visiting prominent US stallion Forestry (who was standing at US$125,000 at the time); he was subsequently a $250,000 buy-back for Emirates Park at the 2009 Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney. Annenkov To Stand At Allandale Park
In Australia, freshman sire Annenkov (Danehill-Agathe, by Manila) will make his stud debut in 2010 at Bathurst-based Allandale Park Thoroughbreds. Work Begins On Werribee Quarantine Centre
Racing Victoria announced "work has commenced" on the new $1.4 million International Horse Quarantine Centre at Werribee Racecourse "ahead of the 2010 Spring Racing Carnival". The centre "will serve as the home for international racehorses that campaign in Victoria, assuming the role from the decommissioned quarantine centre at Betfair Park (Sandown in Melbourne) which has served the industry for the past 17 years". The centre will house up to 24 horses across 2 compounds & is due for completion by August. Visiting horses "will enjoy 1st-class training facilities, with the entire Werribee circuit resurfaced". RV general manager racing operations Leigh Jordon noted: "The industry-owned & administered International Horse Quarantine Centre at Werribee is a critical tool in attracting international horses to Victoria to compete in our premier races. With this year's Spring Racing Carnival featuring the historic 150th Emirates Melbourne Cup, we are expecting to house a strong contingent of international horses at our new state-of-the-art facility at Werribee."

Racing Swamped In Abu Dhabi
In a first for Abu Dhabi (which began racing in 1992) torrential rain forced the abandonment of Sunday’s race meeting. Abu Dhabi has the only all-turf racecourse in the United Arab Emirates. According to racingpost.com, clerk of the course Pat Buckley commented: "I have been in Abu Dhabi almost 20 years and I have never seen rain like it. The sand training track is flooded inside and the water in the car park is covering the wheels on my 4 x 4! It is a shame but nothing we can do about it and more rain is forecast."

Vic Stewards Probe Female Jockeys Brawl
Meanwhile female jockeys Nikita Beriman & Stacey Rawiller "are embroiled in a stewards probe after an alleged stoush yesterday at Echuca left one with a reddened eye & fat lip" & "the chief steward, also a female, had to break up the blue" reported The Herald-Sun. Beriman (who won the 2007 Gr1 Emirates Stakes) & apprentice Rawiller (sister of top jockeys Brad & Nash Rawiller) "allegedly exchanged words after the 6th race sparking a more animated discussion, which could be heard in the men's jockeys room. It's believed push became shove, a whip may have been thrown & then things became a little more physical. The club doctor examined Rawiller & deemed her unfit to continue riding. Beriman was also examined & was passed fit to ride for the remainder of the meeting." Stewards opened & adjourned an inquiry into the incident.

Avdulla To Be Crowned Rising Star
Leading Victorian apprentice Brenton Avdulla will be crowned the winner of the 2009 Mittys Rising Star Series at Betfair Park tomorrow. Following the Mittys Rising Stars Final, Avdulla will be presented with a trophy and prizes valued at more than $6,000 by Mittys Director Alison Cameron. Avdulla will ride Chilean-bred 3YO filly Scarlet (Dushyantor-Biala, by The Great Shark) in the Rising Stars Series Final (1720m) at the meeting. He has an unassailable 26 point lead over closest rival Billy Egan, who has missed the past two months of the Series after being injured in a track work accident. The 18YO has ridden 83 winners in Victoria so far this season, placing him at the top of the Apprentices Premiership and 11th overall in the Victorian Jockeys title. It's a tally which has drawn comparisons to former champion apprentice and last year's Emirates Melbourne Cup winning jockey Blake Shinn.

Emirates Park Slashes Fees On 3 NSW Sires
Emirates Park announced that "in recognition of the difficult season ahead for the thoroughbred breeders of Australia" it has "slashed the service fees of 3 of its resident stallions with immediate effect". Emirates director of operations Dr Shalabh Sahu commented: "Bloodstock sales staged in recent weeks have illustrated that things are going to be tougher for domestic thoroughbred breeders than we first anticipated when originally assessing our service fees for the 2009 season. His Excellency Nasser Lootah (Emirates principal) wanted to address this situation as soon as possible & in the best possible way. This he has done by not only reducing the original service fees set for 2009, but by reducing them significantly." The new fees are:

Dual Gr2-winning 5YO Emirates Park-bred sprinter Mutawaajid (Redoute's Choice-Elated Lady, by Vain) has been withdrawn from training (following a succession of recent setbacks) & will now be prepared for his 1st stud season in 2009.
