The sand training track is flooded inside and the water in the car park is covering the wheels on my 4 x 4! It is a shame but nothing we can do about it and more rain is forecast." (Dec 15)

US$3.7m & US$2.1m Colts Among Kentucky Derby Hopes
Leading contenders Dunkirk & Desert Party "were sale ring superstars & now they've both got a shot at winning" Saturday's Gr1 Kentucky Derby, reported bloodhorse.com.
  • Dunkirk (Unbridled's Song-Secret Status, by A.P.Indy) was the most expensive yearling sold in 2007, when Irish agent Demi O'Byrne (representing Coolmore Stud & its associates) out-bid Clarence Scharbauer of Valor Farm in Texas & paid US$3.7 million at the Keeneland September auction. His dam Secret Status won both the Gr1 Kentucky Oaks & Gr1 Mother Goose Stakes in 2000. In his 3 starts to date Dunkirk: scored by 5.75-lengths on debut over 7 furlongs in January at Gulfstream Park in Florida; followed-up with a 4.75-lengths victory in an allowance race over 9 furlongs at Gulfstream in February; & most recently finished runner-up (in course record time) in March's Gr1 Florida Derby (9 furlongs) at Gulfstream Park.
  • Desert Party (Street Cry-Sage Cat, by Tabasco Cat) was the highest-priced 2YO-in-training sold at public auction in 2008, when Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock manager John Ferguson out-bid trainer Steve Klesaris & paid US$2.1 million at the Fasig-Tipton Florida select auction. Hidden Brook (as agent for Paul Pompa) previously bought Desert Party for US$425,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale. Desert Party (racing for Sheikh Mohammed in the names of Darley Stable & Godolpin) won 2008's Gr2 Sanford Stakes (6 furlongs) at Saratoga (among 4 wins from his initial 5 starts); this season he blitzed his rivals by 4.75-lengths in February's Gr3 United Arab Emirates 2000 Guineas (1600m) at Nad Al Sheba, before finishing 2nd in March's Gr2 UAE Derby (1800m) at Nad Al Sheba.
