It's anyone's guess in the first at Pakenham today with none of the ten 2YOs having any race day experience, but there are a few that might be of note on paper. The early favourite is the trial winner The Instructor (Russian Revolution-Right of Way, by Denman) trained by the Waterhouse/Bott partnership and who sold for $230,000 as a yearling. Breeding aficionados will be excited to watch Firehouse (I Am Invincible-Extremely, by Hussonet), trained by Team Snowden, and this 2YO filly wasn't offered at auction, probably because her older half-brother is Gr1 winning 2YO and boom sire Extreme Choice (Not a Single Doubt). The most expensive horse in the race, Miss Sunshine (Snitzel-Secret Trail, by Denman) was sold by Widden Stud for $600,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and is the second foal of Listed winner Secret Trail. Miss Sunshine is one of two runners for Tony and Calvin McEvoy, who also have Nevada Showgirl (Boulder City-Bay Harmony, by Stryker) a 2YO daughter of Winx's brother Boulder City whose oldest foals are 3YOs. Ukiyoe (Brazen Beau-Illustrate, by Street Cry) is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Daumier (Epaulette) and is trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman for her breeders Godolphin.
