  • The Inevitable Out to Conquer Once Again

    Wednesday, 13th December 2023

A winner of the last two editions of Launceston's Listed Conquering Stakes, the John Keys-trained 8YO gelding The Inevitable (Dundeel-Gift Bouquet, by King's High) has headed back to Tasmania chasing his third consecutive victory in the race. Having raced on the mainland for his last five starts which included a third in the $5m All-Star Mile behind multiple Group 1 winner Mr Brightside (Bullbars) and a second in the Gr2 Theo Mark Stakes behind Gr1 Caulfield Guineas winner Golden Mile (Astern), the Cornerstone Stud-consigned Magic Millions Adelaide yearling sale graduate has then raced at Group 1 level at his last three starts where he has been arguably unlucky at times. Dropping back considerably in class, the nine-time stakes winner has amassed over $1.7m in earnings for his connections, a considerable increase on his $90,000 yearling price when sold by Cornerstone Stud. Beaten just under two and a half lengths when racing first up this time in, the Barry Campbell-trained Alpine Wolf (Alpine Eagle-Copper Dancer, by West Quest) has a win and two placed efforts from five previous second up runs and could be one to challenge the favourite with Danile Ganderton in the saddle. Chasing his fifth consecutive victory, Angela Brakey's King Island (Toronado-No Push Over, by Brief Truce) has three wins and two placed efforts from five starts at the track and distance, and if there are any glitches in the aforementioned runners, the 7YO gelding could play a leading hand in the finish.
