  • X-Factor Filly Selected by Ladbrokes for Quokka

    Wednesday, 3rd April 2024

Ladbrokes has chosen 3YO filly Super Smink (Super One) to compete in the upcoming $5 million The Quokka (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday, April 20. Trained by Daniel Morton, Super Smink has emerged as a promising talent in Western Australia, securing four wins from nine starts, including victories in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate and Group 3 WA Sires' Produce Stakes. Tom Hackett, representing Ladbrokes, expressed his delight with the selection, believing that Super Smink, daughter of Champion Singapore 2YO Super One, injects a unique X-factor into the prestigious event. "Very excited to have secured Super Smink as our runner in The Quokka," Hackett remarked. "I believe she is the x-factor in the race and goes in with a terrific chance!" Super Smink has posted impressive performances in recent trials at Lark Hill. Despite missing a chance to compete in The Gold Rush, connections remain optimistic, feeling there's unfinished business to attend to. TAB rates Super Smink as a $15 contender in Western Australia's richest race, where Amelia's Jewel, trained by Simon Miller, leads as the $3.50 favorite. Last year's winner, Overpass, is at $5, along with Bella Nipotina, who finished third in the previous edition. Confirmed contenders for The Quokka include King Of Sparta ($6), Oscar's Fortune ($11), Waitak ($15), Triple Missile ($15), and Almighty Class ($15). The Quokka is scheduled to take place on April 20, two weeks after the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
