Racing Queensland has announced that racing will return to the course proper at the Gold Coast Turf Club next week, reports racingqueensland.com.au. In partnership with the GCTC, a provincial meeting will take place at Aquis Park on Saturday, September 7. This will be the first event on the course proper since the Queensland Jewel in March. Following this, the GCTC will host its next meeting on the course proper as a metropolitan event for the Pink Ribbon Cup on Saturday, September 21. "A cautious maintenance program has been carried out on the Gold Coast," said RQ CEO Jason Scott. "With improving weather conditions, we're ready to resume racing on the course proper. However, to avoid overworking the track, we'll ensure it gets adequate breaks between meetings and use the Polytrack as needed, while preparing for the Magic Millions." After successful barrier trials, RQ has scheduled two twilight meetings, on October 5 and December 7, to feature the new state-of-the-art broadcast lighting for the final races on each card. The first official night meeting at Aquis Park is set for Friday, December 20. Additional details about the Queensland Summer Racing Carnival will be announced soon.
