  • Vinery Stud Preview 2025 MMGC

    Monday, 6th January 2025

Boasting highly respected general manager Peter Orton and bloodstock manager Adam White at the rudder, Vinery Stud currently sits fifth on this season's Black Type Vendor Premiership as a result of polished graduates such as Too Darn Lizzie, Growing Empire, Gatsby's, and Garza Blanca. Their draft of 38 yearlings for the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale are a strong mix of stallions with exciting female families. A blueblood from the immediate damline of Black Caviar and All Too Hard, emerging young sire Ole Kirk, winner of the Gr1 Golden Rose and Gr1 Caulfield Guineas, began his stud career with a bang this spring with two pre-Christmas juveniles. Ill-fated King Kirk won the Gr3 Breeders' Plate and O' Ole won the Restricted Listed Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic. Vinery will offer four yearlings by him in their draft, two colts and two fillies. Lot 50 is a colt from the family of Fastnet Rock;  Lot 303 is a colt who is the first foal of a winning I Am Invincible mare from the family of Typhoon Tracy; Lot 917 is a filly from the family of Zougotcha and Crystal Lily, and Lot 970 is a filly from the family of Vancouver, with her dam being a full -ister to Gr2 Reisling Stakes winner Tenley. Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Exceedance has also had a meritorious start to his stud career with Gr3 winners Dublin Down and Flyer and Listed winner Swiftfalcon, with his oldest crop just turned three. Vinery will present six Exceedance yearlings in this draft. Lot 166 is a half-brother to Vinery Stud graduate Gr2 winner Roots who has earned over $1 million from the family of Polar Success and Ain'tnodeeldun; Lot 181 is a colt from a young half-sister to Gr1 winner Plucky Belle; Lot 308 is a half-brother to $600,000 earner and Gr2 fourth Much Much Better from the family of Grey Swallow; Lot 511 is a half-brother to Gr3 Maribyrnong Plate winner Aspect and dual Listed winner Brown Ben; Lot 665 is a colt from the family of $1 million earner Pepperwood and Charge Forward; and Lot 942 is a filly out of a young winning half-sister to dual Gr3 winner Slightly Sweet.  Vinery Stud's powerful physical Star Turn churns out high quality Black Type performers with 21 stakes horses from his first four crops, led by Gr1 winner Startantes. He's popular in Hong Kong, and in 2025, Vinery Stud will offer two of his yearlings in their Gold Coast draft. Lot 1087 is a colt out of a young Curlin mare who won three races, and is from the family of Union Rags as well as American stakes winners Satans Quick Chick, Pratella, Satans Code, and Angliana; Lot 1399 is a filly out of a daughter of Gr3 winner Sharnee Rose who placed in the Gr1 MRC Thousand Guineas from the family of Snippets and Not A Single Doubt.  The non-Vinery sires represented in this draft are Bivouac, Captivant, Earthlight, Exceed And Excel, Frankel, I Am Invincible, Maurice, Pinatubo, Prague, Russian Revolution, Snitzel, St Mark's Basilica, The Autumn Sun, Too Darn Hot, Toronado, Victor Ludorum, and Zousain.
