  • Bauhinia Has Barrier to Overcome in Guineas

    Friday, 17th January 2025

Having always shown above average ability, even if you look at purely her last start win, you will clearly note that the Lee and Cherie Curtis trained Bauhinia (Hellbent-Like A Butterfly, by Blackfriars) has an undeniable chance in Friday evening's Magic Millions 3YO Guineas. With two wins and a second from her four starts to date, with the only 'blip' on her record coming with sixth in the Gr2 Silver Shadow Stakes at her third start, beaten just under a length and a half behind Ameena (Tassort). Unfortunately drawn barrier 20 of 23 (including four emergencies), if Tommy Berry can get the filly to settle well in the run and get some clear galloping room coming into the home straight, it would not surprise to see her relish the step up to 1400m, and charge home to be right in the finish. While no winner has come from that wide in the barrier draw previously, it is worth noting that three winners in the last six years have jumped from barriers 13, 14 and 15, so a victory for the Yarraman Park sold Bauhinia is possible. A half-brother to Gr1 winner Amelia's Choice (Siyouni), the Annabele Neasham and Rob Archibald trained Bosustow (Blue Point-Bumbasina, by Canford Cliffs) comes into the race off a fast closing sixth over 1300m and with the extra rip here and the fact he has won second up in the past a clear positive to his chances. Successful in his last three starts, and not seen since winning the Gr2 Sandown Guineas (1400m) on November 30, the Ciaron Maher trained Snitzanova (Snitzel-Albanilla, by Galileo) will go into the race fresh and as the current favourite in a wide-open race, from barrier nine she should prove hard to beat.
