  • Bonjoy Giving Miller a Spring in His Step

    Thursday, 6th February 2025

Once a promising name on the horizon, Bonjoy has risen to become a serious feature race contender. According to racingwa.com.au, trainer Jason Miller is optimistic the star mare can continue her ascent and challenge the top-tier horses later this year, following an exceptional run of form. Bonjoy’s immediate target is the Listed Detonator Stakes (1800m), where Miller hopes she can cap off her current campaign in style. The mare, a daughter of Maschino, has shown remarkable improvement this preparation, establishing herself as a genuine Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) prospect. With a dazzling turn of foot, the five-year-old secured her third consecutive win at Ascot last Saturday, solidifying her credentials as a rising force in feature races. Her recent accomplishments include maiden stakes victories in the Starstruck Classic (1600m) and the Celebration Of Life Day Trophy (1500m), culminating in her triumphant performance in the Ascot Mile. Miller’s plans for Bonjoy include a well-earned spell following the Detonator Stakes, setting her up for a peak performance during the Ascot Pinnacles carnival. “We’re looking at the Detonator and then giving her a break for the carnival,” Miller told Racing WA. “She’ll have a longer break, about three or four months off, and then concentrate on the carnival. Not many horses can win 11 from 18, and her record is pretty good. She has stepped up.” Miller’s confidence in Bonjoy’s ability to compete with elite rivals is well-founded. “I think she can definitely mix it with the better class,” he said. “She has got better each prep, and it’s exciting. It’s just good to have a horse that is capable of going to those races.”
