  • Lady Laguna Supplemented to MM National

    Wednesday, 30th April 2025

The supplementary catalogue for the 2025 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale has been boosted by the inclusion of Lady Laguna, one of Australia's toughest sprinting mares, alongside other notable additions Femminile and Skirt the Law. Lady Laguna, a stakes winner in every season she raced, announced her arrival with back-to-back metropolitan juvenile wins before finishing second in the Lonhro Plate and third behind Fireburn and She's Extreme in the Gr2 Sweet Embrace Stakes. Her 3YO season brought Listed success in the Mick Dittman Plate and multiple Group placings in Sydney and Melbourne. After major summer wins in the LR Stakes and Magic Millions Fillies & Mares, she excelled in Sydney, taking out the Gr3 Southern Cross Stakes, finishing a close second to Zougotcha in the Gr2 Millie Fox, and then dominating Think About It and Espiona in the Gr1 Canterbury Stakes. She remains in top form, finishing third, beaten less than a length, in the Group Two Sapphire Stakes at her most recent start. Lady Laguna’s appeal extends beyond her track record. Her dam, Catalina de Lago, a winning daughter of Encosta de Lago, is a half-sister to She Will Be Loved, Thorn Dancer, and Mya, and shares family ties with Group winners such as Extreme Warrior, Gotta Have Heart, Swear, and the outstanding Lucia Valentina. "Lady Laguna has been a dream for us to be involved with," OTI’s Gus Boyd said. "She’s been such a high-class, tough and honest filly throughout her career. I'm not sure we've ever had another horse in our colours with an attitude as good as hers." Lady Laguna will be offered through Newgate Consignment, with Newgate’s Henry Field calling her "a gem" and praising her "rare combination of Group One consistency, outcross genetics and proven Group performance." Joining her in the supplementary catalogue is OTI’s rising star Femminile, a daughter of Dundeel. A Listed Oaklands Plate winner at two, Femminile recently closed strongly to finish just 3.3 lengths off the winner in the Group One Australasian Oaks. She is from Femme Fireball, a stakes-performed full sister to Group winner Rock. Femminile also heads to the National Broodmare Sale through Newgate's draft, reinforcing the consignment’s strength. Meanwhile, Eureka Stud will present Skirt the Law, the explosive daughter of Better Than Ready who captured the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic among her three consecutive juvenile victories. From a high-quality family that includes Group One-winning sprinter Masked Crusader, Skirt the Law has amassed more than $1.7 million in prize money. Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said, "Lady Laguna and Skirt the Law would be stand-out prospects at any farm around the world," adding that the catalogue now boasts 11 Group One winners and delivers "depth of quality for all corners of the market." Supplementary entries for both the National Weanling and Broodmare Sales close Monday, 12 May.
