  • Power Brokers Set for Tattersalls Stoush

    Tuesday, 6th October 2026

Europe's bloodstock elite converge on Park Paddocks from Tuesday for three days of Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, where 470 of the best-bred yearlings in the Northern Hemisphere catalogue will again be placed before a buyer bench dominated by the sport's most powerful international operations. According to racingpost.com, Sheikh Mohammed's presence during Monday inspections offered an early indication that Godolphin will again be a major force after topping Book 1 spending every year since 2016 and investing 19.625 million guineas in 2025, while Coolmore, Wathnan Racing, Amo Racing and leading US interests are also represented on the ground. The concentration of elite pedigrees is extraordinary, with more than 70 lots either out of a Gr1 winner or closely related to one, and the catalogue beginning with a Siyouni half-sister to Scandinavia before quickly moving through offerings including a Blue Point half-sister to Charyn, a Too Darn Hot colt out of Lady Bowthorpe and a Starspangledbanner half-brother to Look De Vega. Later lots include siblings to Camille Pissarro and Sun Goddess, while one of the most topical offerings is Lot 106, Cotton House Bloodstock's Baaeed half-brother to Blue Bolt, whose page has received a remarkable late-season upgrade after the Juddmonte filly added three further Gr1 victories since the catalogue was printed. Recent Book 1 graduates underline why buyers continue to commit extraordinary sums despite the inherent uncertainty of yearling selection. Derby winner Christmas Day cost 450,000gns, Gr1 Grand Prix de Paris winner Maltese Cross 350,000gns, Commonwealth Cup winner Venetian Sun 240,000gns, Pretty Polly Stakes heroine Estrange 425,000gns and Sunday's Gr1 Prix de l'Opera winner Miss Scott 650,000gns. Last year's sale-topper was a 3.7 million-guinea Sea The Stars colt out of Crystal Zvezda, while Amo Racing paid 4.4 million guineas for the most expensive offering in 2024. Tattersalls' own catalogue statistics show the scale of the occasion, with Wootton Bassett represented by 35 yearlings, Sea The Stars 31, Lope De Vega 29, Night Of Thunder 27, Blue Point 24 and Frankel 21. Book 1 is never a guarantee of future success, but with generations of elite bloodlines compressed into three sessions and the richest buyers in world racing bidding against one another, few sales come closer to putting a market value on racing's most prized genetic material.
